Born and raised in east Tennessee, Rusty developed a love for the great outdoors by hiking the mountains and fishing the fresh water lakes throughout TN/NC. He played various sports growing up and started learning the game of golf from his father and grandfather when he was 11 years old. His expectations of enlisting in the military were altered by a medical issue, therefore he began attending a small technical community college studying finance, accounting and marketing with aspirations of being on Wall Street. Working at a golf course since he was 16 years old and the realization that he could have a wonderful career working outside, lead him to apply for enrollment to the Rutgers Turf Program.
After his first year of college, he pursued an internship under the tutelage of Paul R. Latshaw at Congressional. After the US Senior Open, Rusty finished school in NJ and returned to Knoxville to marry his lovely bride, Julie. After a brief honeymoon, it was back to MD to work with a great team towards the prestigious US Open. The friendships established during this phase of his career continue to provide a solid resource to this day.
Rusty’s turf grass management career has included many stops along the way in the transition zone. Many fantastic memories and invaluable work experiences were gathered in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland. The turf industry has moved his family to many diverse locations but they have always loved the adventure that comes with it.
